Drink Machines

One of the best things about Japan are its drink machines, I seriously love them. Since everyone walks here, they have one like every 20 feet and each machine has totally different drinks! Look at the picture over there, that machine is right in front of our apartment building. It's awesome!

In America they are called soda machines because they carry, you guessed it, soda. Either Coke or Pespi and other Coke or Pepsi owned sodas and maybe a bottled water. If all the planets happen to be in alignment at that moment, you may find a juice, but I wouldn't count on it.

In Japan, on the other hand, they have tons of different drinks in these machines: soda, juice, water, iced tea and iced coffee (with many different flavors) and if you don't like any of those drinks, walk a few feet and check out the different drinks in the next one. Some machines even sell hot bottled drinks, isn't that insane? You can get a hot can of coffee or tea on those cold winter days and I've found machines that can do both! I've seen iced coffee in a machine and the same exact can of coffee is also offered hot! It's the best of both worlds.

In the city they also have beer machines. Yeah, you heard me right, I said beer machines - a vending machine where you can purchase a can of beer! If this was in the US there would be a never-ending line of teenagers waiting to clean the machine out. I asked my wife, "Why don't teenagers in Japan buy all the beer from this machine?" You know what she answered, "They know that they aren't supposed to, so they don't."

Yeah, right, imagine that teenagers that obey the law, that'll be the day.

  1. Aw man! At my job, the university has a contract with Pepsi and the machine in our building won't accept dollars half the time. There are twelve selection buttons and 8 choices. :(
